How to Become a CFI Certified Installer
1. Check the Calendar. Find a Certification in your area or one that you are willing to travel to. 2. Apply. Download the application and proof forms. All applicants must have the minimum years of installation experience required before testing. (Entry levels – 2 years, Advanced levels – 4 years.) All forms must be submitted 2 weeks prior to testing. 3. Study. After forms are received, you will be sent study materials (or spanish version). These will prepare you for the written test. See the certification level requirements to prepare for the hands-on tests. 4. Test. Arrive Friday at 5:15 for check-in. A review will be done from 5:30 -7:30 covering the testing and CFI standards. From 7:30 - 9:30, the CFI Certification Written Test will be administered which includes OSHA, EPA, and Residential/Commercial Guidelines. Saturday: Oral and skills testing. 5. Receive Certification. Approximately three weeks after the Certification, you will receive a CFI Badge and Certificate, along with a packet of introductory material about your CFI Membership. 6. Renew. Your initial Certification is good for one year. An annual renewal fee of $100, along with and educational proof that you continued your education by attended two events is required.
